Food Reviews!!!

i love eating and have been exploring all kinds of food lately

BASIL ALCOVE

Basil Alcove is located at Middle Road, Fortune Centre, it's really small. i visited this place because of all the raves online but my friends were rather disappointed with the food's quality and taste.

">
Mixed Mushrooms- around $15
Many kinds of mushrooms you can find here, but sadly, the mushrooms doesn't seem to absorb the flavour from the sauce it is served with, making them very plain and tasteless though we're all mushroom lovers.

Chicken breast with mashed potatoes and spinach - $10
The chicken was ok to me, it's very much like the one that i always eat at TP's school of Business canteen when i was still schooling there. (but that one costs only around $3 i think)
I love the spinach though, it's cheesy!

Cod Fish!

The cod fish is one generous slice and rather fresh.
I kinda liked it, the meat is very tender and the skin a little crispy.

Pan-fried duck breast done in medium- around $19
This was the most disappointing dish, the duck is really tough and we all had difficulty chewing it.
It looks like it's overdone more than medium.

Ikoi Japanese Restaurant

I decided to try this yesterday as i was really famished and i could gorge down a cow!

Japanese buffet at Miramar hotel, price is around $33++ per pax.
They have a wide variety and i wish to try everything, but my stomach has not enough space to store so much food :(

this is complimentary, raw salmon with sweet sauce, i don't really fancy the sweet sauce.

Salad sticks!
we really love this lots, we had 2 servings of this.
raw, crunchy and cold cucumbers, carrots and celeries dipped in japanese bean sauce.
I feel like a rabbit.

hiyashi ramen, cold ramen salad.
i love japanese chilled noodles especially zaru soba/somen and they have this too!

Toufu Salad- i super love this!!
The toufu is cold, veggie are crunchy and fresh and the sauce they use is superb, it's a little sourish due to vinegar i believe.

California Maki

Our all time favourite- sashimi!
They have many kinds like my favourite salmon, maguro, swordfish, tai, octopus.
Most importantly, they came fresh :)

Tempura.

Grilled Saba Fish (mackerel)

Mixed vegetable salad.

Japanese Oden (yong tau foo)
i never quite liked this so i didn't try any of the ingredients except for the soup. But Bing loves this.

another complimentary dish- Paper Steamboat.
It has salmon, toufu and veggie inside.
I love paper steamboat, it gives me visual excitement and i feel very happy just by looking at it :D

Bacon wraps- crab meat and tomato.
This looks really cute and tastes good!!!
Good ideas for BBQ session next time.

Japanese Porridge- even though my stomach was on the verge of exploding, i die-die also must try this!
I remembered having instant Japanese porridge in Japan that came in rectangular packets, you just have to heat it up and it's edible, it's really tasty with bits of salmon inside, i thought this may be something like the instant one i had.

but, it's not, it's covered with eggs and it's very watery, its not bad actually but i'm really too full to finish it all. (it came in a big pot!)

I came out ot Ikoi's feeling very happy and stuffed!
(it's been long since i've been this happy after trying something new, because lots of new eateries i tried recently were disappointing)

Jessie's Birthday

On jessica's birthday, i decided to try out my new dark green contact lens.

Like father like daughter, both have good and strong vocals.
And don't you think they have the same kind of smile?

The L-family (laughing family)
they are either always laughing, or always making people laugh.

MY family!

Hi!

Recently, i've been frantically shopping again!
and i think there's some things which i forgot i even bought/ordered!

in white

This is a tee from David & Goliath.
Tees are my next hit, i figured that i need more tees than tank tops/camis these days.

Finally i get to order body lotions from Bath & Body Works.
I chose the white tea and ginger fragrant because i like the smell of rejuvenating ginger though i hate the taste of it on my palette.

another one in Japanese Cherry Blossom!
this is proof of how much i miss Japan.

I gave in to temptations and ordered this cuz of all the raves about it online. I'm keeping my fingers crossed cuz i tried alot of skincare recommendations online but they all didn't really worked that well on me.

Croc skin elastic belt.
I love the elasticity of this belt and it helps to keep an oversized dress in shape :)

in blue

Skinnies in black and white.
not the grey one this time cuz i've already got them :P

Masks which i bought some time last month.
They consists of 3 brands: Dainty Design, Xin Ji Mei Ren, My Beauty Diary, all made in Taiwan.
I like xin ji mei ren and my beauty diary masks, they come in alluring and yummy names like apple yoghurt, sake yeast, bulgarian white rose, pearl powder etc.

Dainty design masks somehow caused me itch and red patches which subsided in a few minutes though.

In fact, i tried many kinds of masks before like Olay, St Ives and they all made me itch, i'm not sure why, perhaps its the alcohol content that they have.

So far, most masks from Taiwan are my best bet :)

Now, a post on my newly found favourite Japanese eatery.

Free starters for every main course.

Thick and very fresh slices of sashimi (salmon belly, tuna, sword fish)

Chawanmushi- it literally melts in the mouth.

Codfish hotpot.
This is ultra yummy with generous slices of fresh codfish and veggie.
The soup is really addictive.

It's bubbling

*MERRY CHRISTMAS and A HAPPY 2008 TO ALL!*

How was Christmas for all of you?
Hope you all had a great and enjoyable time, or for those who stayed at home, hope you all had a peaceful time at least :)

I love Christmas and one reason for this is because of the presents, heehee.
It's like everyone's birthday because everyone is entitled to Christmas presents!

Year 2007 seem to be over in a flash, it's really very fast and i can still remember very vividly how last year's christmas was spent though it was a good one year ago.
Anyway, here's some pics of my simple Christmas celebration with my lovely and crazy and sometimes, very silly friends

We were at an American style restaurant in Raffles Hotel, Seah Street Deli.
This is my 3rd time dining here for Christmas, not because the food is great but because... erm.. of some very rubbish reasons.

Us and humongous Santa who gave us sweets and said he was going to meet his reindeers.

Mozerlla Cheese sticks.
It's worth a try if you're a cheese lover.
The cheese isn't melty, instead, it's a fried and stretchy.

Fried Calamaris
They are big and yummy!
They snapped once i sank my teeth into them, extremely chewy and goes really well with tar tar sauce.

Beef Potroast.
It's like finely sliced stewed beef with mashed potatoes and some carrots.
I kinda like it actually but i would prefer a rib-eye steak actually but ended up with this instead as i heard some good reviews about it.

Karyn's burger and it's not really nice.

Jo's fried chicken which i think isn't nice too, cuz she said that it isn't great.

Diana's pork ribs (if i'm not wrong) that came with baby potatoes.

Fiona's beef and mushroom burger (i forgot the proper name for this) but it's nice cuz i'm a beef lover as well as a burger lover.

On our way to party at Rain.

Where am i??

Some random updates:

Dustbin Man's birthday @Club Street

___________________________________________________________________________

Nor's birthday dinner @Pasir Panjang

my ultimate favourite BAMBOO CLAMS!
The ones served here were a little disappointing, the garlic taste was too overwhelming and somewhat bitter, i think this spoilt the dish.

Nonetheless, i still love Bamboo Clams alot.
These cost $6 for one.

La-la, the person who cooked this did it better than the bamboo clams.

Flatfish, which looks like and taste very similar to stingray.
Spicy and yummy, finally something that is satisfying!

Chiili crab.
Unlike other chilli crabs that you get from other places, the chilli crab served here is mixed with some peanut paste, so it tastes like spicy peanut paste, rather unique combination.
Crabmeat is fresh and cheap too.

I totally forgot what is this, it's crab but i forgot the flavour of it.
Because it's unimpressive thats why i forgot it.

The lucky birthday boy had 2 birthday cakes!
